We all have excuses for everything. We justify every shortcoming and disappointment by blaming it on either another person or a circumstance. This is extremely toxic behavior and will kill your spirit if you let it! I know this because I used to have the same mindset, that of a victim. I felt sorry for myself, made excuses for not getting what I wanted and refused to take responsibility for myself and my life. Look, things will happen that you can’t control. Someone dies, a natural disaster strikes, a company goes out of business and you lose your job. These things happen and you don’t have control over them (most of the time). What you DO have command of is your RESPONSE to the challenges that you face on a daily basis.
Bruce Lee once said “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.” It’s time to step up to the plate and take control of your life. I’ll be totally honest with you here. I’m not some Jedi guru that has life and the universe all figured out and is one with the Force, far from it. But, I have noticed that this shift in mindset has done wonders for me. Stop asking “Why did this happen to me?” Try “What am I going to do about it?” Because what you do in response is what actually matters. I’m really going to channel my inner Obi-Wan and tell you to let go. If you don’t get that reference then you’re already a lost soul and there’s no hope for you. Unless there’s a NEW HOPE (yeah, I just did that). Let go of excuses and reasons for justifying why you aren’t where you want to be. Stop overthinking and start DOING. I tell this to my clients all the time. Getting in the gym and getting started is the hardest part, you haven’t built the habit yet. But, like a large boulder, all you need is a good push to get started.
