I’m cutting straight to it in this one. You’re not as busy as you say you are. Be honest with yourself. How often are you checking your phone either texting or scrolling the social media feed? How about television or video games? I’ll be honest and admit that I spend way too much time on my phone, and it’s not always for work. It’s outside my scope of practice to cover this, but I believe we’ve fostered a culture that commends and awards being busy. It’s created a tremendous amount of stress for us in our daily lives.
That tangent aside, this is my challenge for you. 5-minutes a day. That’s all I’m asking for. Do something active for 5-minutes every single day. Go for a walk, jump rope or play with your kids. Hell, walk up and down the stairs at your office for 5-minutes if you want to push yourself a little and feel like you worked out. Stop focusing on the right workout program or diet. At this point, it doesn’t matter because your mindset isn’t where it needs to be yet. In the age of social media and quick searches on Google, we have immediate access to an endless supply of resources on everything imaginable. It’s amazing, but also extremely overwhelming. Put all of that aside and focus on one thing; 5 minutes of activity a day.
Don’t worry about the minor details, you’re missing the point. Just fucking get moving. The main objective is to build the habit of living a more active and healthier lifestyle. You’ll be amazed by how much happens when you make this seemingly minor change in your life.
