Let’s face it, this quarantine is a tough time for all of us.  We miss our friends and family. Even more important, there’s a lot of fear in the air over getting sick (particularly those that are at-risk).  Social distancing is proving very hard, especially for those of us that are extroverted. We’re all processing this in our own way.

However, don’t forget that we all have a choice.  Whether we’re still working or laid-off, we have more free time than we know what to do with.  While it’s great to rest, eat great food and catch up on shows (I’m currently rewatching the original XMen cartoon from the 90’s), there are two things we can do in order to make this quarantine a productive time.

  1. Train your body.  Get moving, keep it simple.  If you don’t know where to start, simply walk.  If you’re fortunate enough to have some equipment, make the most of it.  Set a physical goal for yourself, plan how you’re going to achieve it and execute.  Mine is currently to be able to perform a pistol squat without collapsing to the floor….
  2. Read.  Learn something that will make you better.  Whether it be self-improvement, or a book about something in your career field, reading will keep you sharp.  If you work for a company, it will make you more of an asset to them. If you are self-employed, learning and growing will help you stand out as a professional in your field.

No matter your career or current trajectory in life, doing the above two things will sharpen you.  The best part is that not only will it make the time go by faster; you’ll emerge from quarantine a stronger, smarter version of your current self.  Get to work. Train your body, feed your mind and RISE.

To your lifelong health and success,
